Upcoming Swallows and Amazons Events for the Autumn
There’s a whole load of exciting Swallows and Amazons events coming up over the next few weeks.
Starting this evening, there’s the official book launch of “Swallows, Amazons and Coots: A Reading of Arthur Ransome” by Julian Lovelock at the University of Buckingham (you can also pre-order the book from our shop).
This weekend there are three special screenings of the new “Swallows and Amazons” film in three very different locations: on Saturday afternoon it’s showing (with a Q&A session) at Reghed, Cumbria as part of the Ullswater Outdoor Festival; and it’s also being screened at BAFTA New York; on Sunday afternoon it’s at Ciné Utopia in Luxembourg as part of that city’s British and Irish Film Season.
The following weekend (1st October) sees Swallows and Amazons sailing taster sessions at the Glenridding Sailing Centre in Cumbria (also part of the Ullswater Outdoor Festival), while Sophie Neville (“Titty” in the 1974 Swallows and Amazons film and President of the Arthur Ransome Society) is giving an evening talk on Swallows and Amazons in Stanpit Village Hall, Christchurch.
A week later sees the final Swallows and Amazons Cruise and Guided Walk of the year at Coniston, Cumbria, including a cruise on the Steam Yacht Gondola.
Meanwhile, every day until 31st October, visitors to Brockhole in Cumbria can go on its Swallows and Amazons Adventure Trail and see the Swallows and Amazons exhibition, while intrepid sailors in Norfolk or Suffolk might still be able to request a sail on the Swallow from the 1974 Swallows and Amazons film. Sailing places on the Nancy Blackett may also still be available until 1st October.
Cinemagoers can still see the new Swallows and Amazons film in selected cinemas.
