Barrow school takes to the Lakes to follow in the footsteps of characters from popular film

A Barrow school has followed in the footsteps of adventurous children from a hit British movie filmed in the Lake District. Year Five pupils from Roose School took to Coniston Water in canoes to reenact scenes from the remake of Swallows and Amazons which made its big screen debut in August.

The youngsters had been reading the book written by Arthur Ransome since June and Year Two teacher Angela Bell discussed the possibility of going to the Lake District to follow in the footsteps of the characters. Mrs Bell, a keen fell walker, made arrangements with outdoor group Real Adventure and quickly put plans into motion to get the trip sorted for September.
