The pure cotton teatowels come in three distinctive designs, all featuring illustrations and motifs from Arthur Ransome’s “Swallows and Amazons”, including the famous quote about duffers: “Better drowned than duffers if not duffers won’t drown.” There is also a montage design of various scenes is available.
The most striking design is arguably that of the Map Teatowel, featuring the map of the Lake and the immediate surrounding fells. This may be one teatowel that you will want to display on a wall rather than use in your kitchen.
The map design also features prominently on one of two new fine bone china beakers, as well as on the limited edition rectangular tray. The second beaker design features an original illustration by Arthur Ransome of Swallow under sail that was never used in the published novels.
These are complemented by a round coaster and a coupe plate, while there’s a lidded jury box that features the illustration of a jury-rigged Swallow from “Swallowdale”.
This new Swallows & Amazons fine bone china range is made in the U.K. by William Edwards of Stoke-on-Trent, whose commissions include the official bone china collections for the Queen’s 90th Birthday this year and the Waterloo Bicentenary in 2015.
All of the fine bone china items include a number of scenes from the stories, including the Lake itself, with Wild Cat Island, as well as various rowing boats, dinghies and sailing boats, plus some of the Swallows and Amazons themselves.
The designs are artfully tied together with an attractive blue-and-gold nautical theme incorporating various motifs, including ropes and a compass rose, as well as the swallow and pirate skull-and-crossbones from the Swallows and Amazons flags.
As always, all proceeds from our Swallows and Amazons shop support the work of the Nancy Blackett Trust, so make your Christmas one to remember by treating yourself or someone special with a new Swallows & Amazons gift. At the same time you will also be helping Nancy Blackett to remain afloat and available to the public for years to come.
