We’re Counting Down to the 80th Anniversary Marathon Reading…
There are just a couple of days to go to the 80th Anniversary Marathon Reading of “We Didn’t Mean to Go to Sea”, which starts at 9am on Saturday 21st October.
In honour of the book’s 80th anniversary (it was first published in November 1937), the Reading will feature a First Edition book; celebrity readers, including Griff Rhys Jones, Libby Purves and Sophie Neville; and an appropriate venue: Pin Mill Sailing Club, where Arthur Ransome was a member; and a lectern from which the readers will read.
There is also an official commemorative poster, which you can see in all its glory below.
Naturally, you are invited to be in the audience – so please come along for all or part of the day, to enjoy hearing some great writing and to encourage all of the readers.
Entry is free, and you can come and go as you please. The programme can be downloaded here (PDF, 2MB).
If you are using social media on the day, please use the #pinmill hashtag.
