Upcoming Swallows and Amazons Events and Activities for June
If you are a Swallows and Amazons fan then there are a number of events and activities across the UK this month to go to or participate in.
This Saturday (9th June) you can visit Arthur Ransome’s favourite yacht Nancy Blackett at Woolverstone Marina, near Ipswich in Suffolk, as part of their Marina Day – along with various other nautical activities and attractions.
At nearby Pin Mill, there’s a free guided walk on 21st June along the Arthur Ransome Walking Trail which follows the River Orwell to Shotley Gate, while you can visit the Selina King Exhibition at the Pin Mill Studio throughout the year.
Back at Woolverstone, the Nancy Blackett Trust has its AGM and Summer Social for members on 30th June at the Royal Harwich Yacht Club. You can join the Trust here.
For theatre lovers there’s a new stage production of “Swallows and Amazons” at the Storyhouse Theatre in Chester, with only 5 performances between 9th and 30th June, although it then transfers to the nearby Grosvenor Park Open Air Theatre for July and August.
Meanwhile the Arthur Ransome Society is holding three members’ events – visiting the Matthew in Bristol on 9th June, building rafts in Leicester on 16th June, and walking the Big Water of Fleet Viaduct in Galloway on 30th June. You can find out more and join the Arthur Ransome Society here.
For sailors there are opportunities through the summer to sail on either Nancy Blackett or Swallow. Nancy Blackett is available for Nancy Blackett Trust members to sail this year along the East Coast. You can find out more here and join the Trust here.
Meanwhile, Swallow, the dinghy that appeared in the 1974 “Swallows and Amazons” film, is available for sailing requests on either Coniston Water or Windermere in the Lake District.
